TEHRAN, MARCH 1979 IRANIAN WOMEN MARCH AGAINST THE VEIL

"It would be unthinkable that today, the retention, even the confiscation of these images, come from the very place that produced them." (our friend Marie Dedieu, actress, feminist, journalist, on September 25, 2011)

March 1979, Tehran: IRANIAN WOMEN MARCH FOR THEIR RIGHTS AND AGAINST THE MANDATORY VEIL Help Save these Historical Pictures! Sign here

In 1979, from March 7 to March 13, Iranian women marched in Tehran and other cities, for their rights and against the mandatory veil. Four French feminists filmed and photographed these historical events, and produced a short documentary, Mouvement de libération des femmes iraniennes, année zéro, now known in the Iranian community as Year Zero. Alas, this film was never distributed by its producers, but found a new life on the Internet, the year of the Green movement. These invaluable images, the 16mm footage, and the photographs must be saved, restored if necessary, and released. They belong to the history of the women's movements and the collective memory of the Iranian people. (Update: in June 2023, the French National Library BnF has offered to digitize and restore the 16mm rushes, and Taraneh's interview; no answer yet from Des femmes)
